Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self praised his freshman, Darryn Peterson, after their final game in front of a Jayhawks faithful crowd this year. On Saturday, March 7, coach Self and the rest of his Jayhawks beat coach Matthew Driscoll’s Kansas State Wildcats 104-85 on the former’s home court, the Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.
After the game, Self was asked to address the fans and supporters of his Kansas-based program and share a few words as his team now enters the conference’s postseason and eventually, the national tournament. In a video posted by collegiate hoops reporter Sam Lance on X/Twitter, Self assessed Peterson’s health.
“ And then, we haven’t seen still yet. We haven’t seen the best because today you saw how easy it was when his body is feeling good, and it’s feeling better each and every week. Hey guys, he’s good enough to put a team on his back for two or three weeks, Darryn Peterson. In my opinion, the most improved,” Self said.
Self’s words come as there have been several doubters and naysayers towards Peterson throughout the campaign, despite him being one of the best rookies in the country this year. This is because the scorer has missed a concerning number of games this season due to several reasons, such as minor injuries, conditioning issues, and even illness. Nevertheless, it seems as though Self will back up his player at any time.
Peterson, who is in his likely one-and-done season under the tutelage of Self and the Jayhawks program, is expected to be at least a top-three pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Kansas Jayhawks Dominate The Kansas State Wildcats By 19 Points
It seems as though coach Bill Self, Darryn Peterson, and the rest of the Kansas Jayhawks will enter the Big 12 conference tournament with momentum. This is because they beat the Kansas State Wildcats at home by a staggering 19 points, 104-85.
With this win, the Jayhawks finish their regular season campaign with an overall record of 22-9 (12-6 Big 12) as the fourth seed in the conference’s standings this year.
