Is Darryn Peterson Playing Today vs. Arizona State? Latest Update on Kansas Star Guard’s Availability

Darryn Peterson and the No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this Tuesday at 9 pm ET, in the penultimate game of their regular season ahead of the Big 12 Tournament and then the NCAA Tournament.

The good news for the Jayhawks is that their star player will be there for them tonight. He’s in perfect health, as he showed in his last game. Despite losing to the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats in his previous outing, at a personal level, it was one of the best statistical performances Peterson has put up this season. He recorded 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Peterson has scored more points in only three other games this season, none of which were against a ranked opponent. Scoring 24 points against the second-best school in the nation is a sign of what Darryn Peterson is truly capable of.

Bill Self Discusses Darryn Peterson’s Health Ahead of the Game Against Arizona State

There’s one issue that the Jayhawks have to watch out for with regard to Peterson’s health. He has been dealing with cramping for most of the season, and as a consequence, has lost out on some games.

Speaking with the press recently, coach Bill Self said the issue has been taken care of lately and that they think they have a hold of it.

“I think he’s doing better,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “I still don’t think that he’s where he needs to be (in terms of) explosiveness. I think he’s closer, but I still think there’s another step he can take.”

“We’re at the point now, it’s at the end, so one way or another, we’ve got to put that in the rearview mirror,” Self said. “Obviously, if your body doesn’t feel that way, then it’s hard to do, but I do think he’s gaining on it.”

The issue has significantly impacted Peterson’s draft stock, as he’s no longer the undisputed favorite to be the first overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft. BYU’s AJ Dybantsa is now the favorite to become the first overall pick, with odds of -105, according to Fox Sports. Peterson is the closest to him, with odds of +105. Cameron Boozer is a far third, with odds of +700.
