Cameron Boozer and the Duke Blue Devils are on a roll, but their next opponents, the Virginia Cavaliers, are on a nine-game winning streak. This means that Duke will need the taller Boozer twin now more than ever before, especially as Duke intends to hold onto that No. 1 ranking until March Madness begins.
Injury-wise, the ACC official website has now released its official availability reports for the games to be played on February 28, and the Blue Devils only have one person on the injury list, and that is not Cameron Boozer, but Ifeanyi Ufochukwu. The senior forward is out for the season due to a knee injury.
With Boozer healthy, this would mean that he is more than likely to play against the Cavaliers on Saturday. Even though he is still a freshman, he has become one of the most dominant players in college basketball today, averaging a double-double with 22.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, four assists and 1.7 steals per game. He also has a 58.3% field goal percentage and has had a double-double in four of his last five games.
In the ACC, Duke remains on top of the conference with a 14-1 record, with their only loss coming from eternal rival North Carolina. They have a 26-2 overall record, with their biggest win so far being against former No. 1-ranked Michigan.
Analyst Believes Cameron Boozer Is National Player of the Year Material
It is only his freshman year, yet many are starting to believe that Cameron Boozer might be the one to end Duke’s title drought. With the Blue Devils’ recent dominance, many are also believing that he could be the National Player of the Year.
SI’s Hugh Straine believes that he could be a frontrunner for the prestigious award, pointing out that KenPom’s National Player of the Year algorithm has him with a rating of 2.988, which is the highest in its history. However, CBS Sports insider Gary Parrish believes this could be a race between Boozer and BYU’s AJ Dybantsa.
Parrish does admit that as of right now, Cameron Boozer is the leader for that award, but Dybantsa might give him some solid competition in that race.
