Caleb Wilson Injury Update: HC Hubert Davis Addresses UNC Star’s Status Ahead of Duke Game

North Carolina Tar Heels star freshman Caleb Wilson fractured his left wrist during the loss against Miami last month. The injury has forced Wilson out.

Ahead of North Carolina’s regular-season finale against Duke, head coach Hubert Davis has shared an injury update on Wilson. Davis said Wilson could return in Saturday’s game but it will depend on how the prior two practices go.

    “Nothing is definitive.”

The next availability report will come on Friday and the final injury report will be made available two hours before the tipoff.

Wilson has not played a game since 10th February. He has been averaging 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per season.

According to Davis, Wilson has been doing individual workouts, including shooting and dribbling, though he has not yet fully returned to full-contact team sessions.

“He doesn’t have his cast on anymore,” Davis said. “(He) can’t do anything five on five, but he can do individual workouts. He can dribble, shoot, and he can do everything, just nothing on contact. So that’s a huge benefit for us.”

“(Caleb’s) moving in the right direction,” Davis added. “He worked out the day before the game, and just was dribbling, shooting, catching, like normal.”

Before the game against Duke, UNC defeated Clemson 77-73 on Tuesday night. Wilson would like to return before the NCAA Tournament begins.

Caleb Wilson Excited For Duke Matchup

Just a day before Caleb Wilson fractured his hand, UNC defeated Duke. Now the fixture has turned with Blue Devils’ Cameron Indoor Stadium playing host for this regular-season finale. While it’s not clear whether he’ll play, Wilson is excited to play Duke.

“I’m really excited to go play at Duke, too. I like to be the villain in games, and I just think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Wilson said.

Duke head coach Jon Scheyer is also excited to welcome Wilson who did well when they last faced each other.

“Obviously, he’s a really good player, had a really good first game against us. I think, ultimately, for us, it can’t change our game plan in terms of what our defensive focus is,” Scheyer said.

“Look at their record without him. They’ve done a great job, they’re really good. Now that (Henri) Veesaar’s back in there, of course. But for us, it’s playing Duke defense, regardless. It’s having great respect for him, but also great respect if he doesn’t play in knowing how good they’ve been and how they’ve won. It’s a good challenge either way for our defense.”

It remains to be seen whether Caleb Wilson indeed returns.
