Soon after it became clear that Dusty May was going to be departing Michigan to head to the NBA, Michigan fans must have been waiting with bated breath for a response from one of their top young players, Trey McKenney, as he contemplates his future.
Luckily for the Wolverines, McKenney seems very clear that his future remains in Michigan, and he took to X to make it public.
“Victors always stay #HA1L #GoBlue,” is what McKenney wrote, clearing up his future at least for the time being.
And as the news took off, fans joined in the conversation, with some thinking this was a wise move, while others felt it wasn’t.
McKenney made key contributions to Michigan’s natty-winning season, appearing in all 40 games during the historic campaign, even though he wasn’t really a starter under Dusty May.
Dusty May’s Decision Takes McKenney By Surprise
Soon after Dusty May’s departure, news began to flood in; Trey McKenney was one of the players who spoke about his surprise at the decision.
“I’m just kind of shocked, but life goes on, and I’m happy for him,” McKenney said, per the Wolverines Wire.
“Cuz I mean, anybody else in the room did the same thing and took the same job. I mean, it’s an amazing job, but I’m just excited and kind of anxious to see who we’re able to retain and keep. But I think we have a pretty good staff and I think Dusty left a pretty good blueprint of two years of hard work.
“He brought the best staff in the country to Michigan. So I don’t think there’s anything that the fans or supporters of Michigan basketball should be worried about. So I’m just really excited to be able to see.”
