Alex Karaban has been a loyal beast for UConn over the last four years, whose college basketball career ended with the heartbreaking loss in the NCAA championship game against the Michigan Wolverines.
Over his tenure at Storrs, not once has Karaban even pondered the idea of leaving. So, it was no surprise to see him back in the gym, practicing. On Friday, head coach Dan Hurley captured him from his office at a distance and gave the following narration:
“The ball is bouncing. The guy just couldn’t stay away. Just couldn’t stay away, this guy. There he is. First one back in the gym. Caraban. Look at him. Just couldn’t stay away. Here he goes. He just loves basketball. Unreal. Gonna miss this guy.”
While Hurley boasted about Karaban’s loyalty to his program, fans, upon watching this video, made fun of the former Huskies star, citing his performance in the NCAA championship game. One fan shared a grim outlook on Karaban’s NBA future:
“Bro looked like angel Reese last game. Dudes game will not translate against real beasts I mean look at his physique if you told me he worked at target I wouldn’t be surprised 🤣🤣”
“Couldnt make a shot (s) Move on already and find Some shooters,” one fan wrote.
While there were some derogatory comments, most fans simply hailed Karaban as the best player to play for UConn in their history.
“Not only UConn fans, but ALL college basketball fans should admire the rarity that this player is becoming these days. 4 year player, at the same school who was committed to the letters across his jersey. A dying breed of player 😞” one fan added.
“I know they are strong words and we have plenty of guys that have been absolute studs but when we look back on not only his accolades but his character he truly may be the greatest husky of all time. Gonna miss AK 🫡” another fan commented.
“Thanks for sharing that coach! AK is the greatest Huskie ever!!!” one fan reacted.
“We missed him the second the horn sounded Monday night,” another added.
Dan Hurley Speaks About Alex Karaban’s Impact On Him
Alex Karaban won two straight national titles in his freshman and sophomore seasons. According to Dan Hurley, ever since Karaban joined UConn, he has taken the program to another level.
“This guy changed my life, the staff’s lives, the joy he’s brought to the university the fan base, his decisions come to UConn has made us … he’s helped make UConn the premier program in college basketball right now,” Hurley said. “He’s put UConn in that rarified place in college basketball.”
After recording 17 points and 11 rebounds in the 69-63 loss to Michigan in the 2026 NCAA Championship game, Karaban departs UConn as the all-time leader in games played (151) and 3-pointers made (292).
Karaban enters the NBA draft with mock drafts seeing him getting picked in the early part of the second round.
