Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats has got himself busy retooling the roster aggressively after a Sweet Sixteen run and a 25-10 campaign. Oats needs to address the roster needs, keeping notable departures in mind.
Let’s take a look at the transfer portal activity coming out of Tuscaloosa.
Alabama Basketball Transfer Portal
Players Joining
Brandon Garrison (F/C)
The Kentucky forward is a former McDonald’s All-American with versatility and upside. His size and athleticism are what Oats is counting on to deliver for his frontcourt next season.
Jamarion Davis-Fleming (F)
The Mississippi State forward can rebound well in the paint, averaging 4.8 rebounds per game in 32 appearances last season.
Cole Cloer (Wing)
The NC State star is an elite shooter from the Class of 2025. He brings much-needed perimeter scoring.
Players Leaving
Aiden Sherrell (F)
The Alabama transfer is moving to Indiana after averaging 11.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG and 2.2 BPG last season. This is considered to be a major loss for the program, as Sherrell provided rim protection and interior scoring. Alabama faces a stern task to replace his size and defensive presence.
Jalil Bethea (G)
The shooting guard has announced his plans to enter the transfer portal. He averaged 3.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game, while shooting 37.5 percent from the field last season.
Taylor Bol Bowen (PF)
The junior power forward averaged 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field. He played 30 games and averaged around 19 minutes per game.
Brandon Garrison Provides Reason Behind Choosing Nate Oats’ Alabama
Nate Oats secured a big commitment from Brandon Garrison, who came to Tuscaloosa after playing for the Kentucky Wildcats last season. Appearing on Bama with On3/Rivals Crimson Tide reporter Blake Byler on Wednesday, Garrison revealed his choice to learn under Oats rather than be at Lexington.
“Nate Oats, he’s a winning coach,” Garrison said. “NBA system obviously. I feel like they can get me where I’m trying to go and develop me as a player and a young man… Priority was a main thing for me, just knowing and feeling loved and welcomes. They did a good job of that. Getting me open in those pick-and-roll actions, bringing the ball up the floor, just all the things you see they do with their bigs in their offense.”
It remains to be seen if Alabama can use him wisely next season.
