Mark Pope struck back after a few disappointments in the recruiting department as he secured the commitment of 2027 five-star recruit Ryan Hampton to Kentucky, and amid rumors that the teenager could choose to reclassify, he has confirmed his plans to remain in the 2027 class and pledged his allegiance to the Wildcats.
Speaking to Big Blue Dylan, Hampton opened up about the reasons behind why he joined Kentucky to begin with and how he plans to get better.
“To be honest i don’t think it’s early (to announce his commitment). With the portal and college basketball getting older by the day, it just made sense,” he said.
“Kentucky plays a great style of basketball, they have a great staff and they made it known for a while how much they believe in my ability and they have the plans to grow my game. The fit is there.
“We really just talked about how i can come in and develop and get ready to play as a Freshman. They have all the resources to get me better to reach my ultimate goal.
On the point of whether he was staying in the 2027 class, Hampton simply said, “Yes I am staying in 2027!”
More Fire Power in Attack for Mark Pope
Ryan Hampton may be joining Mark Pope’s squad in 2027, but the addition of Milan Momcilovic will play a major role in where Kentucky end up at the end of this season.
Momcilovic will add attacking flair to a squad bolstered by the return of Malachi Moreno, who withdrew from the NBA draft just in time to return to Kentucky for another year.
Mark Pope and co will hope that the duo will add enough fire power to make a serious run in the SEC once the campaign begins.
