Sacramento State Hornets guard Mikey Williams is looking for a new team and may have aspirations to transfer to a powerhouse D1 program. On Thursday, Williams entered the transfer portal.
Williams significantly improved on his lackluster freshman season. In the 2025-26 season, he averaged 17.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 21 games. The Hornets finished the year with an overall record of 10-21 (6-12 Big Sky).

After winning the 2025 national championship, Todd Golden’s Florida Gators were unable to replicate their success this year. They were eliminated in the second round. With starting guard Xaivian Lee graduating, Mikey Williams can step into that role and be part of the Gators’ future.

John Calipari has always been known as the ideal coach for up-and-coming college basketball guards. The most recent indication of this is Arkansas Razorbacks freshman Darius Acuff Jr., who will most likely be a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. If Acuff does leave, Williams can opt to transfer to the Razorbacks to play for Calipari, who can help him prepare for his future in the sport.

One of the best possible destinations for Williams may just be Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats. Ever since Pope took over the Wildcats in the 2024-25 campaign, he has been looking for a go-to scorer who can win his team games. Williams can transfer to the Kentucky-based program and prove himself worthy of this mantra for one of the most preferred destinations in college.
