After witnessing multiple departures, Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats finally have something to be happy about in the ongoing transfer portal. The Wildcats have secured their first transfer portal commitment in Washington guard Zoom Diallo. The 6-foot-4 guard is expected to take a featured role in Pope’s plans for the 2026-2027 season.
The Tacoma native played his first two seasons with the Washington Huskies. During this period, Diallo started 51 of 64 games, averaging 13.5 points per game. In the last season, he averaged 15.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
Diallo visited Lexington in the first week of the transfer portal before announcing his commitment on Thursday.
By ethnicity, Diallo is Ivorian-American and his parents are from the Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire), situated in the Western portion of Africa. They relocated to Georgia, with Diallo being born in the Peach State, before they went to Washington when the guard was young.
Diallo’s two brothers also played basketball, with the older brother not pursuing the sport beyond high school while the middle brother, Sindou, became a two-time NAIA All-American at Montana Tech.
Diallo now joins the Wildcats roster and figures to become the starting point guard next season. Trent Noah, Kam Williams, Reece Potter, and, likely, Malachi Moreno are expected to welcome him in Lexington.
Mark Pope’s Kentucky Urged to Sign Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic
Mark Pope needs somebody who can score at will and Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic could be that guard for him.
“There might not be a better shooter in college basketball than Momcilovic. The Iowa State forward made 48.7 percent of his threes on 14.4 attempts per 100 possessions from deep last season at Iowa State,” SB Nation wrote.
Momcilovic has also declared for the NBA draft but the prospect of earning more money by staying in college, Kentucky could give him a good reason to spend the year with them.
When Iowa State faced Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament, Momcilovic scored 20 points on 50 percent shooting. Last season, the forward averaged 16.9 points per game.
