Who Are Mark Fletcher Jr.’s Parents? A Look Into the Personal Life of Miami’s RB

In the wake of the Miami Hurricanes reaching the National Championship title game, RB Mark Fletcher Jr. has emerged as one of the most outstanding players for them. He is the son of Mark Fletcher Sr. (aka Big Mark) and Linda Fletcher. Big Mark had been a central figure in Fletcher’s life and football development, coaching him since his youth days in Lauderhill, Florida.

He had become a beloved fixture around the Miami Hurricanes program. Tragically, Fletcher Sr. died in his sleep in October 2024 at the age of 53. To honor his father, Mark Jr. maintains a poignant pre-game ritual of texting his late father’s phone and pointing to the sky after touchdown, crediting his father’s spiritual presence for his continued success on the field.

Mark Jr.’s mother, Linda, is widely recognized for her extreme dedication to supporting her son’s career, notably overcoming challenges to attend his games. As she has a severe fear of flying, Linda drives thousands of miles from their home in Fort Lauderdale to watch Mark play, regardless of the distance.

During Miami’s recent championship run, it was reported that she logged over 17,000 miles round-trip to attend away games in locations as far as Arizona and Texas. She describes the University of Miami as her “happy place”  and has said that, despite losing her husband, supporting her son in person is non-negotiable.

The Fletcher family has deep roots in South Florida, which played a significant role in Mark Jr.’s decision to choose Miami over Ohio State. He wanted to be more accessible to his family and also have them easily visit the university to watch him play. Mark Jr. also has two older siblings who reside in Jacksonville.

The family’s bond with the Miami football program was solidified during the funeral of Mark Fletcher Sr., where the entire team and coaching staff arrived on five buses to pay their respects. Linda Fletcher described this gesture as “over the top” support from the Hurricanes’ football program for the family.

How Does Mark Fletcher Jr. Match Up Against The Indiana Hoosiers?

Mark Fletcher Jr. faces a brutal test against Indiana’s elite defensive front. The Hoosiers rank third nationally in defense, allowing just 2.87 yards per carry. Miami uses a power scheme to find gaps, but Indiana plays with strict gap discipline. Running lanes will be incredibly tight, and Fletcher can’t just rely on open space. He must create yards after contact to keep the offense moving.

The red zone is going to be the deciding factor, and Fletcher is Miami’s hammer near the goal line. Indiana allows only 11.9 points per game, often forcing field goals. In this regard, Miami would need touchdowns to win, and Fletcher must convert short-yardage plays into six points. His efficiency on first down is vital to control the clock. This strategy allows Indiana’s dangerous offense on the sideline.
