“Still Crying”: Dabo Swinney Draws Flak From Fans After Criticizing College Rules

The entire college sports world has been turned upside down over the last few years, with basically no guardrails around how to do business anymore, so you can probably understand why some coaches who have been around for a long time feel the pinch when talking about the issues in college today, and it seems like Dabo Swinney is one such coach.

At Clemson University for two decades now, Swinney has seen it all and isn’t afraid to make his feelings known about where college football is heading, but his latest comments and warnings about the sport don’t seem to have gone down well with a part of the fan base.

Without directly referencing the Brendan Sorsby ruling, Swinney made a generalized claim about college football not being in the right place.

“The only thing worse than having no rules is having rules you can’t enforce or don’t enforce,” he said.

“I don’t think any of us thought we’d be in a world where there’s no order. It’s a much bigger conversation now. Even in the NFL, there are rules. You can’t sign with the Browns and go practice for two weeks and the Dolphins call you up and say, ‘Hey man, what are they paying you? Hey, we’ll pay you a million more. Come on down here to the Dolphins.’ And then you go in there and say, ‘Hey boys, I’m out.’”

Fans Call Out Dabo Swinney After his Comments

For some, however, Dabo Swinney’s comments were a step too far, and he seems to have taken some heat for it from fans.

“Dabo still crying and moaning because he’s out of touch and knows he’s losing his job this year,” one fan said.

“Exception being a coach who can leave any program anytime,” a fan said with a “hypocrite” gif attached.

“He should give up his salary to fund the program…,” another said.

“Either Dabo doesn’t know what collectively bargaining is or he is being disingenuous as usual. I’m going to default to the ladder choice,” another wrote.

“I never heard him complain when he was winning championships and paying elite players elite salaries that others couldn’t offer,” one fan pointed out.
