The Texas A&M quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, has been among the most talked-about stories of this year’s offseason as the controversy of his gambling addiction broke a few weeks ago.
Sorsby later sought treatment for his gambling addiction and claimed his condition to be a mental disorder.
Weeks after the news broke out, Sorsby is now suing the NCAA and filing for an injunction while seeking eligibility to play in the 2026 college football season.
Sorsby has offered to accept a two-game suspension, as he is currently an inpatient for his gambling addiction, and said he would collaborate with the NCAA to educate others on dangers surrounding gambling.
“He deserves a 10-year ban from NCAA athletics. That’ll make sure he never plays again but maybe he can come back and coach or something one day. College football has to be cleaned up.” One fan reacted.
“See ya! Twat bets on his team’s games and teammates, gets busted, claims “mental health” issues, then sues to avoid accountability. Good luck to whatever team drafts this asshat. What am I saying, my #vikings will draft him. 🤣“ another fan commented.
“wow, kid has some pomposity… to sue @NCAA .. he gambles on football, more than avg american, get’s caught, runs to band camp, then wants to come back to college to play more football… and gamble.. wtf
zero accountability.. @TexasTechFB wants this issue all season long?.” Another fan questioned.
“How you going to commit the cardinal sin of College Football then sue??? This ish crazy.” Another fan bluntly asked.
“This is honestly pretty pathetic. He broke the rules, why should he not be punished? Addiction doesnt change that fact. If anything its proof that he shouldnt be allowed to play again. You dont stop being an addict and you dont get special rules because of it either.” another fan said.
“Lawyers just racking up the billable hours with this dude.” Another fan predicted.
Paul Finebaum Predicts Greater Problem As Brendan Sorsby’s Gambling Addiction Comes to Light
On 28th April’s edition of “Get Up,” Paul Finebaum shared that he believes this news to be the tip of an iceberg and predicted that this is a story that a lot of people have been waiting to happen.
Finebaum recalled how the Alabama baseball coach was also immediately fired for betting on games and said while that story went away, Sorsby’s is a big one.
The analyst also shared a conversation he had with a well-known sports handicapping expert, who told him that 75% of college students bet on sports, out of which, the 25% consists of athletes.
“This could be epidemic (proportions) and an epidemic scale of a scandal.” Finebaum said.
Finebaum further added that he believes the NCAA has been asking for this, as the organization agreed on legislation last year that allowed college athletes to bet on professional sports.
