The Florida Gators are often seen as one of many teams from which the Miami Dolphins have plucked players. However, the Gators get their players by plucking them off younger teams as well. Just like how NFL teams can be made or broken by who they add from these pools, the Gators’ future hinges on who they can get from high school teams.
Luckily for the Gators, Jon Sumrall managed to get some big names. Here’s a look at the biggest names currently committed to the team for the 2027 season.
Florida Gators’ Biggest Commitments for Jon Sumrall
#5 – Amare Nugent, CB, American Heritage
Amare Nugent has some wide receiver qualities, but the prospect ultimately fits better on the defensive side of the ball. Possessing good size and solid speed, the cornerback has the building blocks to be something special at the next level. He will need to buy into Sumrall’s message from the first day, which he appears to have covered with a commitment to the program.
#4 – Andrew Beard, RB, Prince Avenue Christian School
Like any running back, Andrew Beard will need a reliable offensive line to maximize his potential. However, with significant investments being made into elevating the offensive line (more on that later), Beard has a chance to be something special for the Florida Gators.
#3 – Elias Pearl, WR, Port Charlotte
According to 247 Sports, Pearl is a little on the smaller side, but the four-star recruit has impressive abilities that have overcome that to this point. The 5’10” wide receiver comes in at 180 pounds with plenty of potential. Pearl will have plenty of attention when he takes the field in 2027.
#2 – Maxwell Hiller, OT, Coatesville Area
Almost like paying rent, the key to living well sometimes comes with protection from the elements. Maxwell Hiller, a five-star recruit, will help solidify the offensive wall in charge of keeping the quarterback clean. Depending on how things shake out, Hiller could be in charge of protecting the blind side of the Florida Gators quarterback for the next several years, which could be the difference between a deep playoff run and missing the dance.
#1 – Davin Davidson, QB, Cardinal Mooney
As a quarterback joining a squad coming off a 4-8 season in 2025, Davin Davidson could see time sooner rather than later in 2027. Davidson, a four-star recruit from Sarasota, Florida, will be in familiar territory, which could help him start his college career on a semi-comfortable footing. There could be a lot on his shoulders as a quarterback, making him the most important commitment for the Gators.
