Elite 11 Day 2: Top Performers Ranked as Peter Bourque Earns MVP Honors

Peter Bourque made waves in the college football world earlier this month when he committed to James Franklin’s Virginia Tech. The four-star recruit was the top uncommitted quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class.

In August last year, Bourque had verbally pledged to the Michigan Wolverines. However, in February earlier this year, he decided to decommit and explore other options before landing at Virginia Tech.

Bourque is once again making headlines, this time at the Elite 11. On Day 2, which is widely considered the ultimate test of a young quarterback’s mechanics and poise, Bourque made heads turn with his performance.

Bourque put on an absolute clinic, officially capturing the Rivals MVP honors for the event’s second night. He led a loaded field of signal-callers and solidified himself as the best in his class by earning the MVP honors.

The four-star Virginia Tech commit was followed by LSU’s Peyton Houston, Miami’s Israel Abrams, Kentucky’s Jake Nawrot, Nebraska’s Trae Taylor, and others. The depth of talent behind them was immense, featuring standout performances from some of the top programs in the country.

The lower half of the top 11 leaderboard features a fascinating mix of future powerhouse quarterbacks. Texas Tech commit Kavian Bryant took the No. 7 spot, followed by Ohio State’s Brady Edmunds at No. 8 and Clemson’s Kharim Hughley at No. 9.

Closing out the rankings are Ryan Rakowski at No. 10 and Alabama pledge Trent Seaborn at No. 11. Leading the charge against these highly touted quarterbacks in the class of 2027 will not only be a huge confidence booster for Bourque, but it will also give a lot of hope to James Franklin and Virginia Tech.

    Why Did Peter Bourque Decommit?

Bourque put up jaw-dropping numbers at Massachusetts’ Tabor Academy last fall. He threw for 2241 yards with 18 touchdowns. His verbal pledge to the Michigan Wolverines was one of their biggest wins last year.

Then the drama started to unfold at Michigan. The team had a turbulent run last season, and their head coach was involved in major off-field controversies. The drama led the Wolverines to replace him with Kyle Whittingham.

Although Whittingham was considered the right choice for the Wolverines by many, Bourque believed that it would significantly change their offensive scheme. That’s why he decided to decommit and later committed to Virginia Tech.
