Arch Manning’s hype ahead of the 2025 college football season was among the biggest ones we have seen in the last few years. While that hype was not matched last year, fans and analysts still have hopes for the Longhorns’ head coach.
Even though the 2026 college football season is a few months away, many individuals are again talking about Manning’s caliber, projecting that the Texas star quarterback can go as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
On3 host Andy Staples spoke about Manning’s ceiling in his podcast released on Wednesday and pointed out the Texas QB’s trajectory from last year.
Staples highlighted that while Manning did improve from his first game till the end of the season, whether or not he is going to be a franchise savior type player in the NFL.
”Not right now. He might be by the end of the season, but if you watched Arch last season, you saw a quarterback who was very much adjusting to being a first-time starter.
This year, he’ll have more weapons around him. He’ll have a lot at his disposal. He will have an overwhelming talent advantage in most games. And I think we should see improvement from him. I think the way he improved over last season suggests that he’s going to be a really good quarterback in college. Is he going to be an absolutely obvious 1-1 in the NFL?
I don’t know that. He hasn’t looked like Andrew Luck. He hasn’t looked like Trevor Lawrence. He hasn’t looked like Cam Newton. Like that’s the kind of person we’re talking about when we’re talking about 1-1 franchise savior type guys.” Staples said.
Analyst Weighs In on Meaning Behind Arch Manning’s Texas’ Citrus Bowl Win
Texas won the Citrus Bowl against Michigan last year with an overall record of 41-27, after which Arch Manning secured the MVP title for his impressive performance in which he threw for 376 total yards and scored four touchdowns.
Josh Pate weighed in on what the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl win meant for Manning and Texas, and while many fans and analysts consider it meaningless, he disagrees.
Pate referred to the game as watching a baby dinosaur come out of its egg, where you see it and know what it’s capable of becoming after a while.
“A lot felt like it was on the line,” Pate said.
Pate also added that the Michigan-Texas matchup felt a lot more exciting than some of the playoff games.
