Michigan Football has plenty of focus on 2026, but neglecting the 2027 season could spell doom for the program in the long term. As such, Michigan Wolverines coach Kyle Whittingham and the recruiters have been hard at work building hope for the 2027 season. Meanwhile, Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame have been working just as hard to win the game before the game, vis-à-vis recruiting.
The Fighting Irish and Notre Dame were dealt a public setback by standout defensive back recruit Monsanna Torbert Jr. on Monday. The defensive back publicly cancelled his visit with the Fighting Irish between June 19 and 21, tagging several reporters in his message.
“I will no longer be taking my official visit to the University of Notre Dame June 19-21 !!!!” he posted.
The message included a picture of the defensive back with the caption “where’s home?” referencing his upcoming transition to a new situation.
With Notre Dame seemingly now out of the picture, Whittingham’s Wolverines now have a greater chance of winning the sweepstakes for the defensive back. If Whittingham can understand specifically why Notre Dame was given the boot and address why the Wolverines are better equipped to handle those concerns, his odds will increase again.
Monsanna Torbert Jr.’s Notre Dame Rejection Comes On Heels Of Another Notable Rejection
Monsanna Torbert Jr.’s rejection of Notre Dame wasn’t the first recent stiff arm the defensive back delivered in recent days. The prospect also decommitted from Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers, despite watching the team win it all in the 2025-26 season.
The defensive back had been committed to Indiana since January, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett in a May 18 post on X. Torbert reposted the report and has overall been very public about his decision-making, telling everyone he can of his intentions at each step of the process.
Of course, his public decisions could be taken in a handful of ways. On one hand, it could be a negotiating tactic to give himself as big a spotlight as possible to pressure teams to jump on the bandwagon. It could also be a way to get the message out that he is available. Either way, the tactic appears to be working, with plenty of attention from Notre Dame up to the program’s rejection.
