Clemson football, like every other program in college sports, has spent recent weeks and months solidifying its squad with talent anywhere the team can get it. The transfer portal and commitments from the incoming freshmen class will secure the future for Clemson or ruin it. It falls on Dabo Swinney to recruit the talent that will give him playoff runs.
Those playoff runs will secure his future. One insider, in a Monday On3 report, discussed the addition of one four-star safety. The process to acquire Jarrell Chandler, according to insider Paul Strelow, was brutal, but it helped the team keep momentum.
“Truth of the matter is, Chandler had even told Clemson coaches he was going to pick the Vols. … Tennessee had gotten the commitment ball rolling by doubling its financial offer to Chandler,” he wrote. “But when Clemson was able to respond by not only matching but exceeding it, the tables were fully turned.
“Miami then doubled Clemson’s offer, per our info from sources close to the prospect. So the Tigers weren’t the highest bidder, or even close to it if you knew the numbers.”
“What’s important, for now, is the gloves have come off — at least for a bit, and obviously to a degree. Sources put it to us in a variety of terms last week. Clemson is swinging. It’s not letting up. They’re fighting. They’re fighting back. And in another respect, you could consider it fighting for their livelihoods.”
Chandler was just one of 10 hard commitments for the Tigers, according to 247 Sports.
Recent Clemson Dip Pushes Dabo Swinney To Brink
While offseasons are rarely taken lightly, Dabo Swinney has perhaps more pressure on his shoulders now than at any point in his career. After a run of 12 consecutive seasons with double-digit wins came to an end in 2023, Swinney managed to rebound with 10 wins in 2024, just barely getting over the double-digit mark.
However, his team fell below the double-digit mark once again in 2025, raising concern that Swinney’s peak might have come to an end. With that idea now circulating the college football world, Swinney has reason to pull out every last stop and surround himself with the best.
That task has become tougher with doubts about his peak ending now on his record in the form of decreasing win totals. While still productive, the coach is in need of some momentum, which he might have gotten, according to Paul Strelow.
