Notre Dame Fighting Irish football head coach Marcus Freeman continues to build one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, and on Tuesday he got another major commitment. Five-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola officially announced his commitment to Notre Dame, giving the Irish another elite cornerstone in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
The decision came just over two weeks after his first trip to South Bend.
“They have a strong culture and coaching staff,” Olubobola said on On3 while discussing his commitment. “They check all the boxes for me. The head coach is a leader of men, the position coach is able to develop offensive linemen to be the best they can be and the strength program is legitimate.”
The Irish have produced several NFL-caliber linemen in recent years, and Olubobola now looks like the next potential star in the making.
This is a statement win for Freeman against other major national programs. Olubobola held offers from nearly 40 Power Four schools, including LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Michigan, and Penn State. Yet Notre Dame managed to close the deal quickly after building a strong relationship with him and his family.
The commitment also strengthens an already loaded 2027 class for the Irish.
How Good is Oluwasemilore Olubobola?
Olubobola is one of the best offensive tackle prospects in the entire 2027 class. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 3 offensive tackle nationally and one of the top overall players in the country.
He is a blend of size, athleticism, and raw power. Rivals director Charles Power even compared him to former Notre Dame All-American and NFL first-round pick Ronnie Stanley.
“Like Stanley, Olubobola is a high-upside, developmental offensive tackle prospect with high-end traits for the position, Both have similar frames, with Olubobola being more filled out at the same stage. Olubobola also shows more power, while Stanley was more of a smooth mover with his basketball background.” Power said.
Olubobola already carries impressive strength and mobility, which makes him a high-upside developmental prospect with NFL potential.
Joe Rudolph’s ability to develop offensive linemen played a huge role in the recruitment. During an in-home visit, Rudolph reportedly broke down film and explained exactly how Olubobola would fit into Notre Dame’s offense.
And with Notre Dame continuing to pile up elite talent, we can expect them to give a tough competition to major programs.
