The NFL has been very clear about its stances regarding its players gambling, and that may hamper Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s future in the league. He is facing a ban in the NCAA regarding his gambling problems after it was revealed that he is suffering from a gambling addiction. Despite this, the Cleveland Browns have shown interest in him.
Cleveland Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot revealed that if there is any team that would get Brendan Sorsby during the upcoming supplemental draft, it would be the Cleveland Browns. The team is known to give problematic players second chances, and its owner is also known to be very interested in drafting quarterbacks.
“I actually would put in a bid for him in the supplemental draft if he enters. I would probably put in a 2nd-round bid… Andrew Berry is a GM of second chances,” she said.
So far, Sorsby has not yet declared for the supplemental draft, though he still has some time to do so, as the deadline to declare is on June 30. There is a chance that he would not be banned, however, though it is pretty low, so he may declare for the supplemental draft if he is indeed banned.
As for his chances to get drafted, Sorsby’s gambling addiction may turn a lot of teams off, even though he is regarded as a promising prospect. Teams might not want that negative publicity, especially if he might get accused of throwing games because of something he bet on.
The Cleveland Browns Have Already Scouted Brendan Sorsby Ahead of the NFL Draft
As for whether the Cleveland Browns know what Brendan Sorsby is capable of, as it turns out, they are. Sorsby mulled joining the 2026 draft but ultimately decided to go to Texas Tech. However, because he was one of the QBs who considered joining the draft last month, the Browns scouted him and saw his potential.
The Browns QB room is a bit complicated right now, though that is not stopping the team from trying to get another one. This is even if the potential QB addition has been accused on betting on some Indiana Hoosiers games while he was part of the team during his redshirt freshman year.
