After the end of last season, QB Brendan Sorsby made headlines by announcing his departure from the Cincinnati Bearcats to join the Texas Tech Raiders on a lucrative one-year NIL deal, which was touted as his final CFB season.
However, Sorsby’s final collegiate season has now been marred by legal troubles as the Texas native is currently battling the NCAA over his eligibility after news of his alleged gambling involvement took the football circuit by storm.
After putting in a notice with the NCAA for Sorsby’s eligibility reinstatement a couple of weeks back, the signal caller’s legal counsel also threatened a legal challenge against the association, which now very well looks like it is in fruition.
In Monday’s hearing in Lubbock, Texas, regarding Sorsby’s CFB eligibility fight, Ross Dellenger reported that the court proceedings concluded without a definitive answer or ruling from the judge, which Dellenger further states was anticipated.
Visuals outside the Lubbock courtroom also saw Sorsby’s legal counsel, including attorney Jeffrey Kessler, walking out after the hearing ended. Sorsby’s appearance in the 2026 CFB campaign continues to be at a standstill.
Sorsby is currently facing heat from the NCAA on his alleged gambling involvement during his time with the Indiana Hoosiers back in 2022 and 2023, where he is suspected of gambling on his own as well as other league games.
NFL Supplemental Draft Looms as Brendan Sorsby Awaits Eligibility Verdict
As Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility status is currently at an impasse, the quarterback and his legal counsel would definitely like to have a definite answer before June 30th, courtesy of the NFL supplemental draft.
While it is evident that Brendan’s legal team would definitely like to reinstate his status on priority, the NFL supplemental draft presents an alternate route for the quarterback to join the NFL on the off chance he cannot partake in the upcoming CFB season.
The June 30 deadline of this summer window allows NFL franchises to onboard players who undergo a status change after the draft and before the new season resumes.
