New Ole Miss coach Pete Golding and former LSU coach Lane Kiffin’s relationship seems complicated.
While Kiffin is no longer well-liked by the Rebels staff, fans, and players after he left the program in the middle of its playoff run in the 2025 college football season, Golding has maintained a civil relationship.
Golding recently joked about how Kiffin still texts him every day, while also clearing the air on their relationship, saying there are two sides to it, a friendly one and a professional one, in which he has to get after the LSU coach sometimes because of a few of his absurd statements.
Doubling down on the nature of his relationship with Kiffin and why he decided not to go to LSU with him, Golding told On3’s Chris Low:
“That’s not why I came here. This had been going on for two years, whether Lane was going to leave, even the Florida talk the year before. I was like, ‘Hey bro, I love you, but don’t get it twisted. I didn’t come here for you.”
Paul Finebaum Accuses Lane Kiffin of Ill Intentions Towards Ole Miss
Lane Kiffin gave a bold statement during his recent interview with Vanity Fair in which he said recruits at Ole Miss would tell him that while they want to play at Oxford, their grandparents wouldn’t like that.
Paul Finebaum reacted to Kiffin’s statement during an episode of “Get Up” and said that Kiffin’s statement wasn’t a slip of the tongue.
“I talked to the writer who did the Vanity Fair piece the other day, Kurt Smith. He said he didn’t even ask Kiffin about the racism aspect of it. Kiffin just started rifting. And this is Kiffin trying to wipe Ole Miss off the face of the earth,” Finebaum said.
Finebaum also highlighted that Kiffin is very bitter towards Ole Miss after they didn’t let him coach in the playoffs and added that the LSU coach now has to recruit against them.
