The Brendan Sorsby gambling saga is reportedly taking a litigious turn with the Texas Tech QB all set to fight his CFB eligibility with no NCAA resolution in sight.
Just days after retaining attorney Jeffrey Kessler to fight the ongoing gambling investigation, CFB writer Ross Dellenger reports that Sorsby’s legal team has put in a notification with the NCAA in the hopes of a faster resolution to reinstate Sorsby’s final-year collegiate football eligibility.
Not only has the signal-caller’s legal team submitted a notice for Sorsby’s reinstatement, but it has also threatened legal action. Dellenger further reports how failure to reinstate Sorsby will be met with an imminent “legal challenge,” going head-on with the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s crackdown on the gambling allegations.
Sorsby is currently accused of allegedly betting online on multiple games, which includes supposedly placing bets on his own games during his time with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he spent two seasons through 2022 and 2023.
Before moving to Texas Tech ahead of the 2026 CFB season, he also spent a couple of seasons with the Cincinnati Bearcats, where he accumulated a total of 45 touchdowns.
CFB Analyst Josh Pate Outlines 3 Tough Paths for Brendan Sorsby Amid Gambling Probe
Upon hearing the news of Brendan Sorsby assembling a legal team to fight his collegiate ineligibility last week, analyst Josh Pate broke down the three possible outcomes of the QB’s CFB future.
Pate revealed how Sorsby’s first choice in this situation should be to get an injunction, which will successfully allow him to play for the Raiders in the 2026 season. The second option is to reach a resolution with the NCAA, potentially through a compromise that grants him one final season of college football. Otherwise, legal action may become the only plausible route to determining his eligibility.
As two out of these three outcomes have essentially played out, it remains to be seen whether the NCAA will soften its stance against the Texas Tech quarterback, especially with renowned sports labor lawyer Jeffrey Kessler now in Sorsby’s camp.
