Arkansas coach Ryan Silverfield delivered one of the standout moments of SEC Media Days after being asked about the Razorbacks being projected near the bottom of the conference despite his impressive record against current SEC coaches.
When reminded that he owns a 5-1 record against coaches currently in the league, Silverfield leaned into the criticism with a confident response.
“Keep doubting me,” Silverfield, who was hired in November, said. “What did you say my record was against the coaches in this conference?”
After a reporter replied, “5-1, Coach,” Silverfield smiled and added, “OK, thanks. Yeah, that’s great. I won’t throw the podium at you, so I appreciate that.”
“Listen, people have the right to feel a certain way, and that’s OK. I’ve been doubted my whole life. That’s not a bad thing. I think what ends up happening is you have a head coach that has a chip on his shoulder. It doesn’t matter what other people think about me. It truly doesn’t. All I care about is what the players and my family think about me. Anybody that’s been around our program, anybody that’s been around me knows that we’re going to do it the right way. In due time we’ll get this back to where it needs to be,” he added.
Silverfield acknowledged that Arkansas enters the 2026 season with plenty of unanswered questions. He said those uncertainties naturally influence preseason projections but insisted they have no bearing on what the team expects to accomplish.
“We’ll look up in December and see where we’re at,” Silverfield said. “Hopefully we’re not at the back end and we continue to make steps in the right direction.”
Ryan Silverfield Confident in Arkansas’ Game
While Silverfield isn’t concerned with preseason rankings, he made it clear there is one area of the Razorbacks he feels especially confident about, that is the rushing attack.
Arkansas finished second in the SEC in rushing last season, averaging 192 rushing yards per game despite losing leading players Taylen Green and Mike Washington Jr. to the NFL.
“I’ve got great faith in our running backs,” Silverfield said. “We have a ton of depth in our running back room. Sutton Smith is here. You know Braylen Russell, Cam Settles. There’s a slew of other guys that are stepping up that we have high expectations for.”
Silverfield also praised an offensive line he believes could become one of Arkansas’ biggest strengths in 2026.
“I believe sitting here today we have seven or eight offensive linemen that can play at a high level in the SEC. It’s our job to continue to develop the rest of that group and get them along, but I’ve got confidence in this offensive line.” he said.
Caden Kitler also echoed that same confidence while outlining the identity Arkansas hopes to establish.
“Something big we focused on in the offseason is our identity as an offensive line,” Kitler said. “We’re going to smash some peoples’ faces in. That’s going to be our identity. When it comes to 3rd-and-short we’re going to be able to get the first down on the ground.”
Arkansas heads into the 2026 season determined to prove preseason expectations wrong.
