In a move that did not surprise many, the Baltimore Ravens have waived undrafted rookie Diego Pavia, one of last season’s Heisman finalists. The Vanderbilt standout had an electrifying season and led the Commodores to one of their best seasons yet, but they did not make the CFP and he went undrafted, eventually getting picked up by the Ravens as an undrafted free agent.
Soon enough, fans started piling in on the former Vandy standout as he failed to impress NFL teams.
“They didn’t want to pay him anymore..” said one person.
“son didn’t even make it to preseason 😭😭😭” another person replied.
“Talk about a fall out. Dude’s life peaked right before Mendoza was announced at the Heisman ceremony,” another person tweeted.
“Pavia and his team botched the draft process. The NFL has shown if you don’t show the maturity and personality of a pro QB they will pass you by. Especially if you’re small and don’t have a big arm.” one X user pointed out.
“Dude had a huge attitude and a chip on his shoulder. Nobody wants that from a rookie.” noted one person.
Analyst Maps Out Several Options for Diego Pavia
As for what is next for Diego Pavia, he is now essentially on the waiver wire. This means he could get picked up by other NFL teams that may be looking for a backup quarterback. However, CBS Sports; Garrett Podell believes he could also find work outside of the NFL.
Podell believes that in the NFL, the New York Jets could be a good fit for Pavia, with the team’s QB1, Geno Smith, now at 36 years old and may be looking to the future. However, he believes that the quarterback could also take his talents north to the Canadian Football League (CFL) and maybe play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Another option is playing for the United Football League (UFL) or be part of an NFL practice squad.
As for Diego Pavia’s NFL dreams, he has now entered a 24-hour waiver period after his release. The 31 other NFL teams can pick him up should they be able to file a waver claim on him.
Before his release, Pavia had a three-year deal with the Ravens. Should those waivers be cleared, he will officially become a free agent again and can be picked up bu other NFL teams.
