“ZERO EVIDENCE To Reverse Call”;”High School Level Nonsense” – Controversial HR Dispute In Missouri Vs Vanderbilt Riles Up Fans

The ninth inning in Missouri was chaotic due to poor visibility in the outfield at Taylor Stadium, resulting in one of the most bewildering and wild moments in D1 baseball this season.

This was the opening game of the series between the Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores, and it was paused in the ninth inning with the Commodores at bat, two outs, and the score tied at 7-7.

The game was suspended after a confusing play when Vanderbilt’s batter hit a line drive that was lost in the foggy outfield. Vanderbilt called it a home run, but the home team and umpires ruled it a ground rule double, scoring a run and advancing runners.

The ambiguity confused both sides and led to a game suspension, with play resuming on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT. The Tigers finally won the contest 8-7 in extra innings, to take a 1-0 lead in the series, which was later leveled after the Commodores won game 2 11-8 in 11 innings.

Fans were quick to share their reactions to this wild series of events in Columbia, MO.

“This is the most Missouri thing ever. High school level nonsense,” one fan commented.

“WITH ZERO EVIDENCE TO REVERSE THE CALL. ZERO,” another fan commented.

“How did they possibly come away with enough evidence to change the call, lmao,” yet another fan commented.

Some other fans questioned the umpires’ and management’s decision to continue the game despite poor visibility in the outfield, with many stating that the game should have been suspended earlier.

“Play shouldn’t have resumed after original delay if the outfielders literally can’t see the batter. Umpires made that mistake in the first place,” one fan commented.

“When a computer is required to tell everyone what happened because of the weather…they waited to long to call the game,” another fan commented.

“Why did the umpires continue to let them play in those conditions? If nobody can see if a ball is in play that is hit to the OF, then you shouldn’t be playing,” yet another fan commented.

Missouri and Vanderbilt Are Both Struggling in the SEC

As the conference championship nears, both Missouri and Vanderbilt will find it difficult to qualify for the final stretch as well as stake a claim in the playoff season for an opportunity to play in Omaha. The Commodores are placed 13th in the conference standings with an 11-15 record, while the Tigers are dead last with a disastrous 5-21 record.

The series finale is set for Sunday at Taylor Field, after which the Tigers will travel to Disch-Falk Field to play their final three-game series of the regular season against the Texas Longhorns before the SEC tournament commences in Hoover, Alabama.
