Nationals Star James Wood’s Mother Paula Sends “Important” Clarifying Message As Old Allegations Against Hollywood Actor James Woods Resurface

Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood’s mother, Paula, posted a clarification on social media to differentiate her son’s name from that of actor James Woods.

Paula’s public message came as past allegations against Woods resurfaced online. Actress Amber Tamblyn has accused Woods of attempting to pick her and a friend up at a diner when they were 16. Woods has denied the claim, calling it a “lie.” Woods also faced additional allegations during the #MeToo movement in 2017. He has never been criminally charged or convicted in connection with any of these allegations.

In her clarifying statement on X, Paula wrote that her son’s last name is Wood, whereas the actor’s last name ends with an extra ‘S.’

“James Wood is my sweet son. He’s Intelligent, kind, funny, and a hell of baseball player. James Woods with an “s” is an actor and a different sort of fella altogether. Felt like that was important to say right about now. Sure wish others were as careful about spelling as I am,” Paula wrote on X.

Since making his debut in 2024, Wood has shown remarkable offensive talent. The 23-year-old initially hit just nine home runs with 41 RBIs in his rookie season, but his performance has improved significantly since then.

Last season, he hit 31 home runs and drove in 94 RBIs, earning his first All-Star selection. This season, he has already hit 25 home runs and recorded 61 RBIs, securing his second consecutive All-Star appearance.

James Wood Is on Pace to Post Career-Best Numbers This Season

Wood has started the season well and is on pace for incredible numbers at the plate. He has a .269 batting average, 25 home runs, 61 RBIs, and a .948 OPS in 94 games this season. He has amassed 96 hits in 357 at-bats, including 22 doubles and one triple.

Based on current trends, Wood is projected to hit a whopping 43 home runs and register 105 RBIs this campaign. The Nationals are currently 48-46 on the season, in fourth place in the NL East, seven games behind the division leaders, the Atlanta Braves, and remain in the hunt for a postseason berth this year.
