Ex-Alabama quarterback, Ty Simpson, is projected to go as the 24th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns Or as the No.16th overall pick to the New York Jets, according to Mel Kiper Jr.
Analyst, Mike Renner, recently expressed his confidence towards Simpson to be a great NFL player during his appearance onthe 92.3 The Fan show. Talking about the Browns potentially drafting Simpson, Renner said he doesn’t believe it would be a mistake, as he is higher on the Alabama quarterback than a lot of people.
Renner called Simpson a physically gifted player and complimented his arm and athletic abilities while also highlighting how he does a lot of NFL things.
The analyst defended Simpson’s unimpressive performance in the last four games of the season and said it had to be blamed on the multiple injuries he faced, while reminding the fans about his earlier performance, stating that he looked like a franchise quarterback prospect.
“Did you see him in the final 4 games? Looked like he couldn’t start for Akron. I don’t want anything to do with him.” One fan reacted.
”THE🧢! Ty Simpson is surrounded by NFL Talent & can barely WIN games vs lesser college teams. Bama has 3 Olinemen that will be drafted in the TOP 100! Top tier NFL talent at every skill position. He’s not better than what we already have on the roster. Jmo. Iykyk. Go Browns! 🫡.” Another fan added.
“No way you say he a franchise QB lol n the first 2-8 games you using a sample size 😂 what about the last 4 which is most important they conference play. Just because there’s not QB prospects this year doesn’t mean take a first rd pick on a 5rd qb🤦♂️.” Another fan wrote.
“Same guy who got benched in the playoffs?.” Another fan questioned.
”why are we talking about ty simpson so much? i dont get it.” Another fan added.
Ty Simpson Reveals Reason for Rejecting $6.5M in NIL Money for NFL
Many fans and analysts were shocked to see Simpson make the decision not to come back and play college football for another year and decide to pursue his career in the NFL after having just one season as a starter under his belt.
Simpson was reportedly offered $6.5M to jump ship and join another team for the 2026 season. The ex-Alabama star didn’t have any doubts in his mind about what jersey he wanted to finish off his college career with.
The ex-Crimson Tide quarterback told Advance Local on January 31st that he didn’t want to tarnish his legacy and go somewhere else, as he joined Alabama after high school and stayed there till the end, when Nick Saban announced his retirement.
“I love the University of Alabama. I love the fans. I love everything about it. Hopefully, in the draft, whenever my name is written on a card, they will write ‘University of Alabama’ on it. It’s going to give me great pride.” Simpson said.
Simpson led the team to an overall record of 11-4 in the 2025 season.
