Rapper and LSU basketball star Flau’jae Johmson has been great for the LSU Tigers, and she is one of the reasons that Kim Mulkey’s squad continues to be one of the top teams in women’s basketball. While her dad, late rapper Camoflauge, is arguably the more famous parent, her mom, Kia Brooks, is also very high-profile, especially as she serves as her child’s manager.
Often called Flau’jae Johnson’s “momager,” LaKia “Kia” Brooks serves as her daughter’s “NIL momager” and is the one handling her daughter’s various NIL deals. As a high-profile college star, Johnson certainly needs one, and her mom has been handling the business side of her career for quite some time now.
She is a common sight in her daughter’s games, whether it be a home game at Baton Rouge or a road game elsewhere in the country, often calling herself Johnson’s “Court Mom” as she cheers the LSU star on. She even has a short film about her daily life as she cheers for her daughter.
Johnson is also a renowned rapper and recording artist, first grabbing the nation’s attention during America’s Got Talent. Kia Brooks handles that aspect of her daughter as well. She also manages LSU star Kailyn Gilbert.
Flau’jae Johnson carries forward her father’s legacy. Camoflauge, whose real name was Jason Akeil Johnson, was murdered in Savannah, Georgia.
Flau’jae Johnson’s Mom, Kia Brooks, Sparked Backlash After Loss vs. South Carolina
While she has been very supportive of her daughter, Kia Brooks also sparked some backlash after LSU lost to South Carolina again. Before this, the Gamecocks handed LSU its first loss of the season at home and took a jab at Flau’jae Johnson by playing her father’s hit track, “Cut Friends.” For this latest loss, her mom went live on X and ranted:
“We’ve never beat South Carolina, cool. But what is going on today? Flau’jae is beating South Carolina in real life. No disrespect to any players or Dawn, we beat them in real life,” Johnson’s mother said. “Even in basketball, she’s bigger than them on the floor. You go look at the stats, she beat every player on the floor that game. Let’s get real, no South Carolina player is going before Flau’jae in the draft.”
This led backlash from South Carolina fans who were not happy with what she said. Despite this, she may be right, as Flau’jae Johnson is projected to go No. 5 in the NBA draft, while South Carolina, despite being the No. 3-ranked team, is not expected to have anybody in the lottery.
