The UConn Huskies were looking to continue their perfect season as they took on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Final Four round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament on Friday. The game took place at PHX Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The Gamecocks took the victory 62-48.
Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks will advance to play the national championship game against the winner of the other Final Four game between Texas and UCLA, which will be played on Friday night.
The Huskies came to the Final Four after beating Notre Dame in the Elite Eight round, ending the last Cinderella story of the Big Dance. On the other side of the bracket, South Carolina also had an easy time dispatching the TCU Horned Frogs in the Elite Eight.

UConn vs. South Carolina Final Four: Game Summary
The game was a close affair between the two top programs in the nation. During the first quarter, neither side could take the lead, with the final score being 15-15. At one point, the Gamecocks were starting to stare down the barrel, between 6:13 and 4:50, when the Huskies grew their lead from 4-6 to 4-11. Dawn Staley’s team spent the rest of the quarter closing the distance until they tied it back at 15-15.
The second quarter ended 11-9, in favor of the Storrs school, although it started with the Gamecocks taking the lead 21-16, with 6:38 left on the clock. However, UConn managed to get the lead going into halftime, 26-24.
In the third quarter, South Carolina pulled extra duty to get ahead, with the final score of the quarter being 20-13. Between the start of the second half and the 3:09 mark of the quarter, the Gamecocks grew their lead to 40-30. The quarter ended with them leading 44-39.
The final quarter was a demonstration of South Carolina’s superiority, ending 18-9 in favor of Dawn Staley’s girls. The game ended with an easy 62-48 for the Gamecocks.
