‘So Proud’: Kim Mulkey Beams With Pride Over LSU Legends Angel Reese, Paul Skenes, and More With Nostalgic Snaps

Kim Mulkey took the LSU Tigers to another Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season. The Tigers lost 85-87 against Duke, bringing Mulkey’s 2026 national title run to an early end.

Despite the loss, there are plenty of things for Mulkey to celebrate. The LSU head coach recently took to Instagram to share several nostalgic snaps featuring former LSU athletes like Angel Reese, Paul Skenes, Cameron Saunders, and Dylan Crews.

“There’s nothing better than seeing our Tigers continue to shine. So proud of @angel.reese , @d.crews25 , @paulskenes and @cameron1saunders ! Champions at LSU. Champions beyond LSU,” Mulkey captioned her post.

While all four players have etched their names in LSU history books, Angel Reese is the one whom Kim Mulkey had the opportunity to work with. Reese arrived at LSU in 2022, only a year after Mulkey took over the program.

Reese and Mulkey made history together, winning the 2023 NCAA championship. The former LSU forward also won the NCAA Tournament MOP that year. The following year, Reese went to the WNBA as the Chicago Sky’s seventh overall pick.

Even though Reese is carving her own path in the WNBA now, the legacy she has left behind at LSU and the relationship she had with her former coach mean a lot to Kim Mulkey.

The 2023 title remains the only championship win in Mulkey’s tenure with the Tigers so far. After that season, she made back-to-back Elite Eight appearances and a Sweet 16 appearance last season.

Angel Reese is Not Making Excuses for Dream’s Poor Form

Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream is currently ranked seventh in the league with a 12-9 record. The team’s run was severely affected by its ongoing five-game losing streak, which is the worst in the league right now.

The star forward is still putting up big numbers every game, averaging a double-double with 14.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest. However, the Dream are struggling with shooting at all levels. During a recent postgame press conference, Reese was asked about the team’s struggles, and she gave a blunt answer.

“No excuse. Absolutely no excuse. We just have to be better. If it’s shooting a 100 free throws after practice or 50 free throws after practice, that’s what it is. But we haven’t shot great, not just from the free-throw line, but from our field goals, too,” she said.

“We just have to get back to the drawing board and figure out what works because we know how good we are when we are able to make those easy free throws, when we’re able to make our easy shots.”

The Dream will play the Seattle Storm on Thursday.
