Vic Schaefer’s Texas Longhorns have proven to be one of the best teams in women’s college basketball this season. They have been versatile, impactful, and most of all, consistent. Madison Booker has been a leader for them for a while now, and this season has been no different. She has been at the heart of everything good for Texas.
They hold a 31-3 record overall and 13-3 in the SEC. Booker has been averaging 18.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 34 games so far this season. Rori Harmon and freshman Aaliyah Crump have also been in amazing form. Vic Schaefer’s side is on an eight-game winning streak. And the last victory came against SEC rivals Dawn Staley’s South Carolina to claim the SEC Tournament championship.
South Carolina is also having yet another great season. They have the same overall record as Texas, 31-3, including just one loss in conference play.
South Carolina and Texas have clashed three times this season. It was one win each, but Texas’ 78-61 win in the SEC Tournament was a big one. And Madison Booker revisited that victory with Lisa Leslie.
“I don’t think I was really surprised. I think I don’t know. I feel like around like the game, like some games prior to that, practices prior to that, I felt like we were just clicking and like shots were falling and chemistry was like at an all-time high. And feel like our defense is like it’s our identity as a team. And I feel like we have been doing well in that end just playing as like a sisterhood and helping each other being, ceiling um midline.”
“We the pressure on ball. Rori’s been doing a great job pressuring the ball up the court. We have other players stepping up too. so I thought you know we were going to win honestly before we even got to SEC just ’cause how we’ve been practicing and how we’ve been preparing for that tournament,” Booker shared why she thinks Texas was so dominant over South Carolina.
Booker led the way for South Carolina with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the SEC title game. In three games against the Gamecocks this season, Booker has averaged 19.3 points per game.
