Rori Harmon’s Texas Longhorns lost 44-51 to the UCLA Bruins in the Final Four matchup. It was an overall disappointing performance from the Longhorns. Kyla Oldacre was the only player who reached double digits with 11 points.
Harmon was restricted to just 8 points, shooting 4 of 11 from the field. It was a particularly rough outing for Madison Booker, who had been in great form throughout the season, averaging nearly 19 points per game.
In the Final Four matchup, however, Booker couldn’t get anything right. She shot 3 of 23, taking the most number of shots, for just 6 points. She didn’t make any of her four three-point attempts as well.
Booker ended up with just six points, seven rebounds, and one steal. Even though it was a collective failure and loss for the entire team, she became the target because of her otherwise exceptional run this season.
Harmon came to her teammate’s defense, stating that it was just an off night for her on scoring, and regardless of the expectations, she tried her best.
“Y’all gotta realize she’s human, and we want her to take those shots… Please give her a break,” she said. “I truly told Maddie, ‘I don’t care.’ I don’t care what your statistics look like. There was plenty of other things that caused us to lose the game, not just because Madison (Booker) missed her money midrange, because I promise you we’ll continue to go back to her, we’ll continue to look for her, we’ll continue to tell her to take her shot.”
There are several reasons why Booker’s performance in the Final Four stuck out; one of them was the fact that she had been shooting over 50% from the field throughout the season.
Madison Booker Got Emotional About Rori Harmon
This turned out to be Harmon’s last college game. She would’ve wanted to be in the championship matchup and end her college career on a high note. However, the Bruins outplayed them and crushed that dream.
When asked about Harmon and what she will miss about her, Booker got emotional.
“That’s my sister,” she said. “Just her growth just over the years since I’ve been here. I mean, my first year coming in, it didn’t go as planned. We didn’t play a full year together. Her going down with her ACL. Her coming back and being even stronger.”
Booker said that she has learned so much from Harmon, and they have built a strong relationship on and off the court.
