Rori Harmon played the last game of her college career in the Final Four matchup against the UCLA Bruins. Having utilized a medical redshirt to return for a fifth year, Harmon’s run with the Texas Longhorns has been legendary.
She averaged 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.5 steals per game over the course of her five seasons in Texas. In the Final Four matchup against UCLA, she scored eight points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
The Longhorns lost the game 44-51, and the Bruins advanced to the championship game on Sunday, where they’ll face the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Harmon made history in her college basketball career. She did what no other great before her was able to do. College basketball legends like Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson, Paige Bueckers, and others are usually at the forefront of every record.
However, Harmon became the only player in NCAA history with at least 1500 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds, and 350 steals. This is a unique feat, and Harmon is the first player to ever achieve it.
At just 5’6, Harmon is an undersized prospect for the WNBA. However, she offers elite defense, playmaking, scoring capabilities, and most importantly, the intensity that one must have to play at the highest level. She is projected to be a second-round pick in the WNBA Draft.
Rori Harmon on the Impact Coach Vic Schaefer’s Harsh Criticism Made
The Longhorns went through a rough patch this season. In February, they lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores 70-86. They never looked like a team that could beat the Commodores. What made matters worse was Vic Schaefer’s comment about his team.
“It’s the first time at Texas I feel like my team was out-toughed; the other team played harder,” he said. “And just quite frankly, we had no heart. You want to ask me what does it take to win at this level, what’s it going to take for my team, you got to have heart, we got no heart.”
Being ridiculed by their own coach was all the motivation Harmon and Co. needed. Since then, they went on an unbeaten run, which ended tonight against UCLA.
“When you hear your own coach say those things about you in that moment,” she said. “I know deep down he really doesn’t feel that way, but hearing your coach say those things, you never want him to ever think that ever again.”
Even though the season ended in disappointment, Harmon has established herself as one of the greatest players to ever represent the Texas Longhorns.
