Coach Vic Schaefer is incredibly happy with his job at Texas, and deeply believes the team can do even better in 2026-27. He said as much in a statement released this Thursday afternoon by the Longhorns.

On it, he praised the team and the fans for the 44-game home winning streak the SEC school went on this past season. He said the fandom truly makes the difference and allows Texas to be a top program.

For all its wholesomeness, the way it was released reminded fans of statements coaches usually issue when they’re about to leave their schools or announce their retirement.

“Vic you almost scared me. Praise the Lord and Hook ‘Em Horns,” said one terrified fan

“Thought bro was retiring for a second Jesus,” wrote a relieved fan

“this was a jump scare. thought my guy was retiring for a second,” said yet another person

Others couldn’t wait for the next season.

“Let’s win a championship this coming season!!! 🤞🏽🤘🏽🧡,” said another individual

Some fans almost got angry with coach Schaefer.

“Boy I thought this was a see ya later note. I was almost mad lol,” joked someone

What did Vic Schaefer say in his statement to the Texas community?

Vic Schaefer’s statement to the University of Texas community on Thursday was a deeply thoughtful one, with him using the opportunity to thank the supporters for riding with the team for good or for ill:

“Your love and support of our program here at the University of Texas has meant so much to our student athletes and women’s basketball. Our 44-game home winning streak is a direct result of your passion, love, support, and commitment… The atmosphere that you have provided… is second to none. You truly are a sixth man/player for us… This team will be special, exciting to watch with both returning stars and new stars coming to the Moody to compete at the highest level.”

In the closing phrasing of the statement, he said all the team’s success is, in a way, thanks to the supporters of the program:

“Thank you again for all you do for our program and especially our student-athletes. You should take great pride in knowing you are the difference.”

Truth be told, the statement’s format alone would have made any fan worry.
