Dawn Staley’s Former South Carolina Standout Left In Awe As Joyce Edwards Shows Off Elite Athleticism

South Carolina Gamecocks forward Joyce Edwards is impressing many over the internet through her elite hooping ability. She is currently preparing for the 2026 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Warsaw, Poland.

In Team USA 3×3 warmups, Edwards made her way to the paint and lifted herself to throw down a thunderous dunk. Players on the court were left in awe after seeing this ability from Dawn Staley’s former five-star recruit.

In the comments section, former South Carolina player Maryam Dauda shared a one-word reaction to the dunk:

    “JOYCE😮🔥”

Dauda was selected for the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2025, following her season with South Carolina. She is a former McDonald’s All-American and has also played for Arkansas.

Coming back to Edwards, the Gamecocks star was selected to the 2026 USA Women’s 3×3 National Team. Earlier in spring, she helped the U.S. qualify through the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Alongside her, the roster also features MiLaysia Fulwiley, Mikaylah Williams, and Sahara Williams for the World Cup in Poland from June 1-7.

South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards Honored with Academic All-America Selection

Following the second straight title-game loss, Joyce Edwards was selected to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Second Team, becoming the fourth player from the Gamecocks and the first since Aliyah Boston.

The other players from the Second Team were:

    • Amaya Battle, Minnesota
    • Avery Koenen, North Dakota State
    • Gianna Kneepkens, UCLA
    • Kiki Rice, UCLA

Meanwhile, on the First Team, the following players were honored:

    • Raegan Beers, Oklahoma
    • Mikayla Blakes, Vanderbilt
    • Azzi Fudd, UConn
    • Olivia Miles, TCU
    • Sarah Strong, UConn

To be eligible for this honor, players must score at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, be a sophomore academically and play 90 percent or start at least 66 percent of the team’s games. Edwards, an environmental science major, scored a 3.7 GPA.

Moreover, Edwards also became only the third Gamecock (after A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston) to earn All-American in the first two seasons.

Edwards had a great season in 2025-26, breaking the 48-year-old single-season scoring record with 768 points. She also tied for the most 20-point games in a season. She led the Gamecocks, averaging 19.2 points per game, fourth-best in the SEC. She is also inside the SEC’s top 15 with 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
