    TCU vs Virginia Game Summary

Given that both teams were riding on momentum from their respective second-round wins in the NCAA tournament, they went back and forth to open the game. TCU Horned Frogs star Olivia Miles cracked the game’s scoring open with a layup, which was retaliated by the Virginia Cavaliers in the very next possession. This went on to become the story of the first quarter, with the early nip-and-tuck affair giving Virginia a four-point lead, 21-17.

For the second period, coach Mark Campbell‘s team knew that if they didn’t ramp things up, an upset as the No. 3 seed by the No. 10 seed was imminent. With this, the Horned Frogs constantly threw haymakers at the Virginia-based program, resulting in several deadlocks. At some points, TCU got one-point advantages, but the Cavaliers kept getting it back. Eventually, Virginia led by just one, 36-35, to close the half.

Things quickly changed at the start of the second half, as coach Amaka “Mox” Agugua-Hamilton’s squad did not expect the TCU charge immediately. The Horned Frogs got the lead in just the opening seconds of the third quarter and did not look back. Miles and company’s edge eventually ballooned to 15 points, ultimately ending the frame with a 12-point lead, 59-47, with just 10 more minutes to play.

The Horned Frogs found their groove in the second half, which was a scary sight for the Cavaliers. TCU kept the pressure on coach Mox and company, as they stayed in the lead with double digits throughout the layover period. Virginia did eventually trim their deficit down to single digits with just a minute left to play, but the scoring surge of Horned Frogs standout Marta Suarez, coupled with Miles’ leadership, was enough to win by 10, 79-69.
