Olivia Miles and the TCU Horned Frogs have every reason to celebrate wildly after they escaped with a 62-59 OT win over Washington to reach the Sweet 16. After Miles’ potential winning shot didn’t fall in, the point guard’s college basketball career was coming to an end fast.
However, Miles’ teammates denied the unlikely outcome as they came together to win in OT. Miles herself had 18 points and 10 assists, some of them coming in the late period. In her interview, she acknowledged the support of her teammates.
While she was in the middle of her interview, her teammates intervened, compelling Miles to turn the hardwood into the dance floor.
“Was so proud of my team, the way we responded,” she said.
Third-year TCU coach Mark Campbell shared his reaction to the win:
“That was just a gritty, resilient game. We were down the whole time, just stayed in the fight. And we grinded that thing out, got it to overtime and then we finally broke loose … Winning in March is so stinking hard.”
Olivia Miles Extends Appreciation To TCU Teammates
Olivia Miles is in her final season of college basketball. She wants to do well for the team and on Sunday, her emotions were all over the place. When that winning shot didn’t fall in, she was really disappointed. It was her teammates that lifted her spirits for the overtime, where Miles assisted several layups to Clara Silva, who had 16 points in the game.
“Oh yeah, I thought it was going in,” said Miles. “My teammates had to calm me down. … I practice that shot a lot.”
Miles added that her teammates saved her season, extending it to Sweet 16
“I owe it all to my teammates, to be honest. I was crashing out multiple times. I was angry, I was feeling all the emotions because I didn’t want to go home. I don’t want them to let my team down,” Miles said. “It’d be a disservice for me not to be resilient for them, and for myself.”
This was TCU’s 44th consecutive win, tying Texas for the longest active NCAA streak.
