    The UCLA Bruins and South Carolina Gamecocks fought it off this Sunday afternoon for the women’s college basketball national title. The game, same as the Final Four encounters, took place at PHX Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. In the end, UCLA crowned itself the national champion, winning 79-51.

    The Bruins came after a 51-44 win over Texas in the Final Four, while the Gamecocks ended UConn’s undefeated season with a 62-48 score. Both games took place on Friday.

    South Carolina vs. UCLA Women’s Basketball National Championship Game Summary

    The UCLA Bruins proved their mettle as favorites to win the national championship during the first quarter of the game, outscoring South Carolina by more than 10 points. The first quarter ended 21-10 in favor of the Los Angeles school. It was in the final stretch of the quarter that the Bruins started to distance themselves, as even at 4:23, the game was just 13-10 in UCLA’s favor. Then, the Bruins scored eight unanswered points that put the final score of the quarter.

    During the second quarter, South Carolina was able to stem the bleeding significantly, but they couldn’t eat away at UCLA’s lead. The quarter ended 15-13 in favor of the Bruins, which made for a halftime score of 36-23. Throughout the quarter, the Bruins held the lead by at least 10 points all the way. The third quarter of the game all but confirmed that UCLA was on its way to becoming the national champion, as the Bruins outscored the Gamecocks 25-9.

    While the fourth quarter was the closest in the entire game, with a final score of 19-18 in favor of South Carolina, the damage was already done, with the game ending 79-51 in favor of UCLA.
