South Carolina Gamecocks’ guard, Ta’Niya Latson, will be making her first Final Four appearance on Friday against the UConn Huskies. Latson spent the first three years of her college career with the Florida State Seminoles and joined the Gamecocks in 2025.
While she gears up for the game against UConn, a former UConn player recently underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus in her right knee. Nika Muhl, who played for UConn from 2020 to 2024, will miss the entire 2026 season.
After her run with the Huskies, Muhl was drafted in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. In April 2025, the franchise announced that she would miss the entire season due to a torn ACL.
This will be her second straight season missed in the WNBA. Muhl underwent a successful surgery to repair the torn ACL and meniscus. Before going into surgery, she posted several pictures from the hospital.
“October 2024 & March 2026. Sh*t happens twice but so does the get back. Thank you for all the love,” she wrote.
Several basketball stars, including Paige Bueckers, Cameron Brink, and Ta’Niya Latson, wished her well and a speedy recovery.
“Praying for a speedy recovery,” Latson wrote.
“Nika Mühl underwent a successful surgery on March 31 to repair a right ACL tear and will miss the 2026 WNBA Season. Nika, we are with you and wishing you strength & healing as you recover,” Seattle Storm wrote on Instagram.
Despite being drafted in 2024, Muhl has only played 16 games for the Seattle Storm, averaging 3.6 minutes per game.
Ta’Niya Latson is Enjoying her Success at South Carolina
In her first season with the South Carolina Gamecocks, Latson is averaging 14.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. In comparison, she averaged 25.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game in her last season with the Seminoles.
Although her individual numbers have gone down, Latson is experiencing team success that she didn’t have before.
“I came here to win, and that’s something that we’ve been doing. I mean, this is my first Sweet 16, so I’m super excited. This may be the standard for them, but this is my first one,” she said after making her first Sweet 16 appearance.
Latson said that she came to South Carolina to win trophies and make a deep NCAA Tournament run.
