Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks are in the Sweet 16 and getting ready to face the Oklahoma Sooners on March 28. It has been smooth sailing for the Gamecocks this season, except for the SEC Tournament loss against Texas.
So, the Gamecocks are going into the Sweet 16 matchup with high spirits, and it was visible while they were about to board a flight to Sacramento. Staley was in a fun mood as she recorded a video with Raven Johnson.
Last week, during a brief conversation with the media, Staley was asked what Johnson had taught her. The Gamecocks’ head coach has a great relationship with the star player. Staley said that Johnson has taught her to always be on her toes because “she will say anything.”
Staley recalled an instance from their previous matchup when the teams had an extended commercial break. Coach Staley told her team that everyone had to wait because the players were making a lot of NIL money. That’s when Johnson walked up to her and simply said, “Aflac.”
After the moment went viral, Johnson collaborated with Aflac for a campaign titled ‘Ask about it at work.” Since then, Staley and Johnson have been going back and forth on X over the new campaign.
“I see you Ray Ray! You and @aflac duck are smiling big!! AFLAC AFLAC AFLAC!!!” Staley responded to Johnson’s post.
The Gamecocks’ head coach has made several videos yelling “Aflac” and supporting her star player. She recently posted a video with Johnson right before they boarded the flight. The duo can be heard using the brand’s name in the video.
Dawn Staley on Wearing Luxury Brands
Staley’s fashion has become a part of social media discussions over the years. She often wears luxury brands during games, and her energy on the sidelines brings more attention to her overall presence.
She was recently asked about the evolution of her style.
“I’ve been around long enough to remember when you were not wearing Gucci and Louis Vuitton on the sidelines,” he asked. “When did [you] start wearing the designer labels and why did you start it?”
“I’m presented with stuff,” she said. “It’s not like I’m going out or I’m going online, like I have someone who works in those stores. They just send me stuff and I pick up what I want, and I send what I don’t want.”
Staley said that she always wore shoes from big brands, but her wardrobe has changed over the years because of the connections she has made, as they make the process easy for her.
