Dawn Staley and South Carolina have always been huge contributors to women’s basketball. Some of the greatest players have played under Dawn Staley’s leadership. From A’ja Wilson, Kamilla Cardoso, Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray to most recent names like Raven Johnson, Tessa Johnson, Joyce Edwards. All have made major strides.
Many Gamecocks have made their marks on the WNBA and have taken women’s basketball to another level. Three from Dawn Staley’s daycare now share the same locker room. After Indiana Fever picked Raven Johnson as the 10th overall pick at the WNBA draft, she was welcomed by two former South Carolina stars.
Indiana Fever picked Aliyah Boston as their number 1 draft pick in 2023. In 2020, Fever chose Tyasha Harris as their 7th overall pick. Now all three of them are representing South Carolina together. And the Gamecocks fans are extremely excited for them.
Aliyah Boston, Tyasha Harris and Raven Johnson posed court side during Indiana Fever’s pre season game vs Dallas Wings. South Carolina fans took over the post and celebrated the Gamecocks trio.
“Dawnie’s Past Daycare Students,” one fan applauded.
“MAMA STALEY SAID HI TO HER BABIES,” one fan shared a screenshot of facetime between Dawn Staley and the South Carolina stars.
“If we’re going to be the Indiana gamecocks draft Tessa next year,” one fan demanded.
“Gamecock trained. Gamecock strong,” one fan stated.
“Loved hearing Dawn say “ GO FEVER”,” another fan said.
“Gamecocks Trio!!!!” another exclaimed.
Dawn Staley sends out cool message for South Carolina trio in Indiana Fever tunnel
Dawn Staley is always active on social media to appreciate her former players wherever they are and whatever they are doing well. Recently Indiana Fever’s South Carolina star Raven Johnson walked through the Fever tunnel together.
While they were walking together, Raven Johnson was on FaceTime call with Dawn Staley. South Carolina head coach excitedly cheered the Indiana team, “Tunnel fit baby, let’s go Fever.”
