Dawn Staley has never been one to shy away from hyping up her players. Always proving to be a solid supporter, the South Carolina Gamecocks’ head coach has been vocally behind all her players who ever played for the college basketball team, and just weeks after a long run in the NCAA Tournament, there was no way she wasn’t going to hype up the women who so recently moved on from college to the pro level.
One such player is Raven Johnson, who was one of Staley’s top players at the Gamecocks, and recently went to the Indiana Fever in the WNBA Draft. Johnson has been a part of the Fever squad during their preseason tour, and as she arrived to represent her team against the Nigeria basketball team, there was a surprise guest waiting along the way.
Coach Staley could be seen on video call with Raven, hyping up her ex protege, and especially having something to say about her outfit before the game.
Dawn Staley was full of voice and backing for her former star, shouting out so that the cameras could get a glimpse of her support.
“Tunnel fit baby, let’s go Fever!,” she chanted as Raven Johnson gleefully looked on.
Dawn Staley’s Prayers Paid Off as Indiana Fever Win Final Preseason Clash
The Indiana Fever were victorious by a large margin, and perhaps Raven Johnson got just the motivation she needed, as the Nigerian team was blown away by the impressive offense of the WNBA side.
Kelsey Mitchell was particularly impressive, scoring 17 points for the Fever as the team blew Nigeria away, ultimately winning the tie 105-57.
Raven Johnson is widely expected to be one of the top players for Indiana Fever as they start their new WNBA campaign in just less than a week against Dallas Wings.
