Dawn Staley has always been a major supporter of all her players long after they’ve moved on from the South Carolina Gamecocks, the team she coaches, and it’s no different with Madina Okot.
As the Kenyan made her preseason debut in the WNBA, many expected her to pick up where she left off in the college basketball scene, and that’s exactly what she did.
Okot dominated during her brief time on the court for the Atlanta Dream, basically doing what she needed to in order to get her team the W against the Chicago Sky.
Perhaps all eyes were on Angel Reese for this one, but it was Okot who really turned heads, scoring 14 points and a double-double, showing that she’s made for this level of women’s basketball, prompting praise from two different coaches, with Coach Staley finding a similarity to her time in college.
Karl Smesko All Praise for Madina Okot
Madina Okot further earned praise from her new coach, Karl Smesko, who highlighted the qualities that will take her far in this league.
Okot was considered Dawn Staley’s machine at the South Carolina Gamecocks, and it appears she’s just continuing the good form she had at the collegiate level into the professional one, and we’re all for it.
With a long season to come, coach Smesko and the WNBA fans will be hoping for more of the same from one of the rising stars of the game.
