The Sweet 16 bracket for the 2026 NCAA Tournament will be finalized today. There’s only one game left in the second round, between the UCLA Bruins and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. That game will conclude within an hour.
So far, 15 teams have secured their place in the Sweet 16, and six SEC teams have made the cut so far. The LSU Tigers registered a blowout 101-47 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders yesterday and advanced to the next round.
Mikaylah Williams and Flau’jae Johnson led the team with 24 points each, and Kate Koval dropped a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double. The Tigers will face the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet 16 round.
The Oklahoma Sooners had a hard-fought 77-71 win against the Michigan State Spartans. In the low-scoring game, four Oklahoma players scored in double digits, and center Raegan Beers dropped an 18-point double-double.
The Sooners will play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Sweet 16. The Texas Longhorns also registered a blowout 100-58 win against the Oregon Ducks. Forward Madison Booker dropped 40 points, shooting 14 of 21 from the field.
In the Sweet 16 round, the Longhorns will face the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky played the West Virginia Mountaineers and won 74-73.
The South Carolina Gamecocks won 101-61 against the USC Trojans. They took a 51-21 lead at halftime and didn’t allow the Trojans to bounce back. The last SEC team that qualified for the Sweet 16 round was the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Vanderbilt won 75-57 against the Illinois Fighting Illini and will play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sweet 16 round. The SEC is tied for the most teams in the Sweet 16 by any conference in a single season.
Dawn Staley Sent Gifts to March Madness Opponent
South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley sent gifts to the Southern Jaguars players last week. The Jaguars played the Samford Bulldogs in the First Four and won 65-53. Before that game, Staley met the team at their hotel.
When she got there, some of the players told Staley that she smelled good and asked her what perfume she was wearing. Later, Staley decided to surprise them with Louis Vuitton perfume samples.
“It was just a small gift,” Staley said. “It was just a small gesture. I had them, I probably wouldn’t use them, they could utilize them, and I just did it.”
A day later, the Jaguars played the Gamecocks and lost 34-103.
