South Carolina Gamecocks guard Raven Johnson has issued a warning to her team’s next opponent, the UConn Huskies.
On Friday, April 3, Johnson and the rest of coach Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks will face coach Geno Auriemma’s UConn in the Final Four of this year’s national tournament on neutral grounds, the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
In a video uploaded by @posther.hoops on Instagram, Johnson can be seen at a media availability ahead of the Final Four matchup. The senior was asked about her thoughts on the Connecticut-based program. For Johnson, her team has one specific goal in mind, and she believes that it does not matter who their opponent is.
“ We have one goal, and that’s to get to the national championship, and they’re in our way of getting to the national championship. So that’s, I think that’s how we’re thinking of it. And it won’t matter if they were UConn, if they were Benedict. It don’t matter like they’re in our way. So, yeah,” Johnson said.
“Raven Johnson made it clear that no matter who stands in their way, their goal is winning a national championship. 🗣️,” @posther.hoops on Instagram captioned with an emoji.
The matchup between the South Carolina-based program and the Huskies serves as a rematch of the 2025 NCAA championship game. In that game, UConn defeated Johnson and company by 23 points, 82-59, to win the national title. The Gamecocks were the defending champions at the time. South Carolina now looks to exact revenge on the Huskies by eliminating them in the semifinal.
The winner of this matchup will move on to face either the UCLA Bruins or the Texas Longhorns in the 2026 NCAA title game.
The 2026 NCAA Final Four Game Could Be Raven Johnson’s Last In College Basketball
If the South Carolina Gamecocks lose to the UConn Huskies in their upcoming Final Four matchup, it will be Raven Johnson’s final collegiate hoops game.
This is because she is in her fifth and final year of college basketball and will most likely be a first-round pick come the 2026 WNBA Draft. Johnson was a part of the 2022 and 2024 national championship-winning Gamecocks teams.
