Iowa Hawkeyes forward Hannah Stuelke displayed an awe-inspiring hustle play during her team’s most recent postseason game, and it has gone viral on social media.
On Monday, March 23, Stuelke and the rest of coach Jan Jensen‘s Hawkeyes team lost 75-83 to coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton’s Virginia Cavaliers in the second round of this year’s Big Dance on the former’s home court, the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
In a video posted by @marchmadnesswbb on Instagram, Stuelke is captured fighting for an offensive rebound against Cavaliers stalwart Sa’Myah Smith in the final minute of their game’s overtime period. Stuelke got caught with an inadvertent elbow to her neck. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native fell to the floor in pain as she held on to her neck while her face grimaced.
Stuelke saw that the play continued, with the Virginia-based program in possession of the ball. The senior proceeded to get up, despite the pain she was suffering. Stuelke hurried down and even got the defensive board for her team after the Cavaliers missed. The Hawkeyes then crossed the ball half-court before coach Jensen called a timeout that allowed Stuelke to get a bit of a breather.
“She noticed the play was still going and went to grab the rebound for her teammates 👏#MarchMadness x 🎥 ESPN,” @marchmadnesswbb on Instagram captioned with a couple of emojis.
A plethora of fans and supporters were in awe of the grit and fortitude Stuelke showed in front of the Hawkeyes faithful. She is one of the best players on the team. The fourth-year standout has spent all four seasons of her college basketball tenure with the Iowa-based program. She finished the aforementioned game with 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting, 19 rebounds, six assists, a steal, and one block.
