To nobody’s surprise, the UConn Huskies of Geno Auriemma and Sarah Strong won the Big East women’s basketball tournament. They did so in incredible fashion, too, beating Villanova 90-51 on Monday.
In all honesty, nobody was expecting Villanova to come through with the upset in the Big East championship game. UConn is the top team in the nation, and it arrived at the Big East Tournament with a perfect record of 34-0.
Now, Sarah Strong and her teammates are enjoying the fruits of victory. The undisputed leader of Auriemma’s team jumped on Instagram on Sunday to post some pictures of her and teammates celebrating the Big East title.

Former UConn star turned WNBA Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers was one of the first to react to Strong’s post. In the comment section, Bueckers wrote:
“Can’t wait to see your moves 💃🏼”
Sarah Strong herself seemed to be looking forward to March Madness, with her writing the following caption on the post:
“Que empiece el baile 🤭,”
The phrase was a Spanish reference by Sarah Strong to the nickname of the NCAA Tournament, which is also known as the Big Dance. The phrase translates to “Let the dance begin.”
KK Arnold, Serah Williams, and Kayleigh Heckel, all current members of the UConn roster, also jumped into the celebration and added their own comments.

Geno Auriemma Says he Will Return to UConn in 2026-27
Fans have been wondering for a while now when Geno Auriemma will call it quits with the UConn Huskies. In the last decade, it has looked like he’s going to retire a couple of times. In the end, he returns, and he remains at the top of the game.
Speaking this week with the Hartford Courant, he revealed that he doesn’t have plans to retire anytime soon. Here’s what he told the local newspaper:
“I’ve passed up two great opportunities to walk away,” Auriemma said. “I don’t know if God is going to give me any more. He gave me a great opportunity in 2016, right? And I blew it. Then he gave me another great opportunity last year. They say it rarely ends the way you want it to end, and he gave me two great opportunities to end it the way I would want it to end.
“So I don’t know why in God’s name I’m defying him, I don’t know why. It’s a big risk. You come back again next year, and you’re not undefeated, you’re not one of the top two or three teams in the country and it’s, ‘Oh, the game’s passed him by, he’s old now.’ We listened to that for eight years, so I wonder if that narrative has left now… “Well, I mean, something could come up,” he said, “but there isn’t anything right now where I’d say, ‘It’s up in the air whether I’ll be back next year.’ No. That’s not what I’m thinking. I would not have been on that plane Tuesday if I was not planning to be here.”
And why would he? He just took an undefeated UConn team to another Big East title, and the Huskies have to be considered the favorite for the national title. We are betting no one wants him out of Storrs just yet.
