There are a number of things that Dawn Staley gets praised and recognized for. Being a basketball legend, she is praised for everything she has done for the game. In 2008, she took over the head coaching duties for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
There aren’t many coaches in college basketball history who can stack up their resume against Staley’s. So, she deserves to be praised for that. Her confidence is another thing that stands out from the rest of the coaches.
In recent years, Staley has taken her fashion game to another level. She is seen wearing luxury labels on the sidelines, and fans have noticed the change. Recently, a reporter asked Staley about the evolution of her style.
“I’ve been around long enough to remember when you were not wearing Gucci and Louis Vuitton on the sidelines,” he asked. “When did [you] start wearing the designer labels and why did you start it?”
Staley interrupted the reporter in the middle to comment that she always wore shoes from big brands before answering the question. She said that she doesn’t actively look for the big names and doesn’t even buy them at times.
“I’m presented with stuff,” she said. “It’s not like I’m going out or I’m going online, like I have someone who works in those stores. They just send me stuff and I pick up what I want and I send what I don’t want.”
Staley said that buying clothes isn’t a hassle for her, and she doesn’t have to do it all by herself. She has easy access to things through her connections, and they help her in picking out clothes.
Dawn Staley on What Raven Johnson Taught Her
Raven Johnson joined the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2021. The point guard has won two NCAA titles, the 2026 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, among other honors. She has learned the ins and outs of the game from Dawn Staley.
In exchange, Johnson has taught Staley a few things that the head coach recently revealed during a media interaction.
“Raven has taught me to stay light on my toes because she will say anything,” Staley said.
Staley told a hilarious story from their last matchup. There was an extended commercial break, and Staley told her team that it was because they were all making so much NIL money. Johnson then walked up to her and said, “Aflac.”
Staley was amused by her response and said that Johnson is quick-witted, and it’s one of the many qualities that she will miss.
