Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo Breaks NCAA Record That Eluded Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers And Other Legends

Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo is one player on everyone’s minds despite losing to Geno Auriemma’s UConn and getting eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. She is one of the greatest players to not win a national championship. She was the second-highest scorer in the country after Mikayla Blakes and led Notre Dame to the Elite Eight before crashing out against the Huskies.

Even in defeat, Hidalgo was possibly the best player on the court. Before the game, she showed character when she challenged UConn. However, Notre Dame was evidently the second favorite and could not really trouble the Huskies. Hidalgo was still playing on another level. She scored a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, though her team lost 52-70.

After the game, she earned high praise from Geno Auriemma. The UConn head coach crowned Hannah Hidalgo the best point guard in the country. She also warned Geno, saying she wants another crack at UConn.

Hannah’s competitive spirit is known to all. She holds the record for the most steals in a single season – 199, most steals in a single NCAA tournament – 26, and most steals in a single game – 16. This season, she entered the NCAA history book with another unbelievable record.

“The final averages for Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo from one of the best seasons not just in Fighting Irish program history but in the history of the sport: 25.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 steals, 5.2 assists. She’s the only player this century to average 25/5/5/5. Special,” an X post was captioned.

Hidalgo stands alone with this stat line, as not even legends like Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers could come near this record.

Fans React to Hannah Hidalgo’s Insane Record

You know it is a special record when a player surpasses elite players. And Hannah Hidalgo has surely entered the list of some of the greatest college basketball players.

Fans online were in awe and praised Hannah Hidalgo’s record.

“She really played both ends at an elite level,” one fan appreciated.

“Wish we could put more around her,” one fan talked about the lack of support in Notre Dame.

“Forward to Naismith Committee and AP, we already know,” another said.

“Special young woman and a great role model for young lady ballers. No matter how small you are, or told by many you can’t do it. She said…yes you can. Inspirational for years to come,” another commented.

“The fact that she isn’t even a finalist for player of the year is the ultimate disrespect. She’s the best two-way player in the game,” one fan complained.

“5 steals a game is insane. Her rebounding at her height is really good too,” another fan stated.
